About the Chamber

The mission of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce is to “support business and promote community.” The Chamber is made up of hundreds of businesses and industries whose goal is to promote Mitchell County and its economy.

The Chamber operates two locations in Mitchell County. The Mitchell County Visitor’s Center is located in the Museum of N.C. Minerals, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Visitor’s Center greets over 200,000 visitors each year and provides them with information about the county. Administrative offices for the Chamber are located on Crystal Street in downtown Spruce Pine.

Chamber membership affords businesses increased exposure, networking opportunities, access to business seminars and workshops, listings in both the Chamber’s Directory and the Chamber’s new website, as well as access to important county information. Mitchell County government is of the county manager/county commission type, with 5 sitting Board members. There are two incorporated towns in Mitchell County. The county seat is Bakersville, in the northern section, with a population of about 500. The County's largest town is Spruce Pine, located in the southern section, which has a population of about 2,500. Both towns feature the mayor/town council form of government.
